Asquith Adores Nominee - Seed and Bean

Asquith Adores Nominee - Seed and Bean

Seed and Bean make delicious, fairtrade, organic chocolate but that's not the only reason they are nominated in the Asquith Adores Awards. The first British chocolate brand to be 100% recyclable. Seed and Bean are championing the way for sustainable confectionary. We caught up with the team to find out more about their brand and why we think you should vote for them in our awards...

Can you tell us how/why you started your brand?

Seed & Bean was founded in June 2005 with the idea to create an ethical range of confectionery. The focus was on always using organic ingredients, using small-scale suppliers and being brave and wild with flavours; chocolate with a wild side.

We are 100% organic and our products are ethically sourced. All of our chocolates are handmade in England. We also pride ourselves on being Fairtrade where possible, and our packaging is 100% compostable; including the inner foil. Our production facility is deliberately small: our batch size is just 45 litres, compared to large industrially-produced chocolatiers who make batches of 20-50,000 litres a batch! When it comes to chocolate, we really are chocolate artisans.

We live on the wild side of taste with our adventurous and unique flavours, using only 100% organic ingredients. Our adventurous English Botanical flavours are unique and delicious, as well as 100% organic and ethical. There is something for everyone in our vast range of 22 flavours.

We pride ourselves on making super soft ethical yoga clothes, if your brand had to be remembered for one thing, what would it be and why?

Chocolate with a wild side – the most ethical but delicious chocolate with a flavour to suit every personality.

How do you ensure you stay on top of ethical/eco trends and ensure your brand is moving in the right direction as it constantly evolves?

We have been ethical since the beginning, being the first UK chocolate brand to have fully compostable packaging, including our unique inner foil. We ensure to be ethical in all areas of our supply chain from being Fairtrade ensuring our workers are treated and paid fairly, to only using organic ingredients, not using dairy in our dark chocolate making them vegan certified, and of course ensuring all our packaging is compostable from our bars to gift sets and anything we bring out in the future. By keeping on top of this, we make sure to continue our high standards which are key to our ethics.

If you could share one tip for someone who wants to live more ethically and sustainably in 2019 what would it be and why?

Shop consciously. Just be aware of what you buy, how much packaging there is and where the product comes from. This is the easiest way to make a difference. And recycle of course!

What is your favourite product and why?

It’s a tough one between our Sea Salt Dark chocolate flavour or our Coconut & Raspberry Dark chocolate.

And finally, is there anything you would like to share with our readers?
